KAY DENNIS, CHAIRPERSON, TEALING PRIMARY SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
The PTA began in May 1990. I remember our very first fundraising event. It was a Jumble Sale held in October. It wasn't due to start until 7.00pm, but we arrived at 6.30pm to find the playground full of cars and people. It was quite frightening fighting our way through! When we got into the classroom where the sale was to be held there were faces peering in through the windows. We opened the doors and were almost trampled in the rush. It was worth it though as we raised £250.
We are a very successful fundraising committee. We subsidise buses for school outings, the trip to the pantomime at Christmas, to buy books, toys, prizes for sports day, Halloween etc. We also try to organise fundraising events that include the whole community. Our most recent was a Bingo night. We have two major fundraisers every year, a sponsored spell in the spring and a bingo night in the autumn. We also have a raffle at our AGM and cake and candy at sports day. My hope for the millennium is to continue to involve the parents and the local community in projects at the school.
